Echo Spring Petal Scarf - FO Friday

Happy Friday everyone! This week has seem to just drag by for me. Maybe because I begin my Stay-cation next week. Yep, taking time off from work and enjoying some local activities. It is Spring Gruv around our town, so plenty of live music and pond skiing happening next week.

I completed my Echo Spring Petal Scarf and added a couple of wooden buttons. It isn't a very long scarf because I did make it for the cooler months so no need for a thick wrap.

Enjoy your weekend!! I plan on tackling a few more projects next week.

Echo Spring Petal Scarf - WIP

Happy Wednesday everyone!! I am working on a new scarf but with an old pattern. I did the Spring Petals Scarf  before using the Lion Brand Ozark Forest Tweed yarn in this post. I decided to re-visit this pattern and use a lighter weight yarn. I chose the gorgeous Redheart Boutique Unforgettable yarn in the Echo colorway. Its variegated colors are beautiful with the mixture of green, grey, pink, and purple. They remind me of Spring so I went with a Spring-like pattern!

This pattern is a very simple pattern but can be a bugger starting the first row and not thinking you did something wrong. Once you get about 5 rows in, it begins to fill out better.

I do love how this yarn self-stripes.

Completed Hooded Scarf

I enjoyed working the scarf pattern of the Hooded Scarf by Sedruola Maruska, but I went astray when it came time to begin the hood part. I started and frogged the hooded portion at least three times when I finally decided to make it separate and then attach. For those of you who have done this pattern and were able to do as the pattern is written, my hat goes off to you. My yarn just kept twisting. You don't want a twisted hood! LOL!!

I was able to complete it in time for my model to be back home from her latest competition. She loves it and I think I just lost another completed work to my little thief.

First picture of collage shows how I joined the hood to the scarf using the slip stitch. Second picture of collage shows the added 8 rows of half double crochet I needed in order for it to be a full hood. I also love how it looks attached to the scarf. The third picture in above collage shows the lovely cross over double crochet cable stitch. I believe it added a beautiful accent along with texture to the scarf and hood.

Close up of model and hood!! I really love the end result. :-)
Happy Valentines to all!! Have a wonderful weekend!!

I am hitching a ride with Tami's Amis again this week. You can also check out my project notes on my Ravelry account.

WIP Wednesday - Hooded Scarf

Hello Everyone. My blogging has taken a back seat as well as my crocheting these past few months. Sorry for the lapse in blogging, but I just haven't had a very creative spirit as of late. I have been enjoying the snow and ski season. So instead of crocheting or crafting I have been spending most of my time outdoors on the ski slopes.

A view of Peak 9990 at the Canyons Resort in Park City, UT. It was a perfect bluebird day to hit 94 turns!!

My face is completely covered because it was about 15 degrees and I was freezing!

~Hooded Scarf by Sedruola Maruska~

I came across this lovely pattern on Pinterest last month and I just had to purchase it!! I have always wanted to work up a hooded scarf, but never really found the right pattern. I love the edging detail in the hood and it has some cabling as well. So a very rich textured scarf and hoodie. This is a purchasable pattern, so I cannot share too much about how to make it, but the pattern level is for Intermediate Beginners. Hopefully, I can conquer making this lovely hooded scarf. If you are interested in purchasing the pattern you can find it here.

Even though I do know how to do a cable stitch, I was a little confused on the directions of this particular cable stitch. It is more of a long double cable stitch that crosses over and I found a great video tutorial to help me understand it better.

Cross-Over Long Double Crochet Stitch by CrochetNCrafts

I came across this lovely colored green yarn on clearance the other week. It is a Bernat product called Vickie Howell Sheepish. It is 30% wool and 70% acryllic. Although I love the blue in the pattern picture, I thought the green would be just as lovely. I hope I bought enough skeins to complete the hooded scarf because I would hate to need more. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Progress has been pretty good considering I just started yesterday. I have 75% of the scarf part completed and will begin the hood part today.
Crazy how the lighting in the second picture makes the green look so light!
Everyone have a great week. And for those that are in the middle of this horrible East Coast storm, stay warm and safe.

Headwraps and Scarves

Last Friday I decided to walk home from work which is a 6 mile walk for me. It was a very nice day when I started the walk. Well, by the time I was 4 miles into my walk the weather became colder and it began to snow. I didn't have anything for my head to keep me warm, so I ended up with a head cold all weekend. What do you do when you are sick in bed all weekend? I crocheted headwraps and scarves!! Hopefully, these headwraps will keep the head cold at bay for the rest of the winter.

This is a very simple pattern that I found on Ravelry. The pattern can be found here. It is by blogger Frayed Knot. You can actually modify it by increasing the stitch row to adjust the width. I had to because of the yarn weight I used. The cactus flower headwrap was crocheted with Lion Brand Amazing yarn which is 1.75 oz weight and required an increase to 14 stitches wide. The Ozark forest wrap is made with Lion Brand Tweed and I increased to a 14 stitch wide wrap because of how tight I crocheted the stitches. The woodland tweed is also made from the Lion Brand Tweed and kept it at the 12 stitch wide pattern. This is an easy 1 hour project and great for a quick Christmas gift. I have a few nieces that will benefit from this pattern. :-) Plus my scarf thief has now also became a headwrap thief. I hadn't even sewn the button on the Cactus Flower one before my daughter snatched it up!

Since my DD wants to always own the items I crochet, she was commissioned as my head model! She added a little whimsical to the look by adding leopard spots to her makeup!

I have also made a couple of scarves to go along with the headwraps. I had already made a woodland tweed scarf, you might remember it from this post. It is an easy granny square scarf.

I made a scarf out of the Ozark forest colored yarn as well. It is the Spring Petal Scarf pattern. I loved how the sc and dc stitch combination makes this gorgeous shell.

Last, but not least, I completed the Tunisian Crochet Scarf! It turned out great. I did this one up without a pattern, but it is a pretty basic stitch. I just did 2 rows of Tunisian simple stitch, a row of Tunisian reverse stitch, and then Tunisian double crochet until I reached the length I wanted and ended it the same way I began. I made it into an infinity scarf mainly because Tunisian crochet really rolls up at the ends. I added a few buttons as well.

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend! I'm linking up with Tami's blog again this Friday. Please take a moment and check out other FOs!

Just a quick pic of what I woke up to this morning.

Snow and lots of it!!

WIP Wednesday - Tunisian Crochet Scarf

Hello everyone! I have falling in love with a new crochet technique this week! Yes, Tunisian Crochet has been my new passion these past few days. I was sparked by it when The Crochet Crowd uploaded a new Tunisian Crochet Series. It is a 10 part video tutorial and Mikey Sellick is a great instructor. If you are interested in a learning a new technique, I suggest checking out these tutorials.

I love how the yarn works up in such a great texture. This scarf can definitely be reversible because of the distinct stitching pattern on the right side/working side of the scarf and the soft look of the wrong side/opposite side of the scarf.

I am using Lion Brand Amazing yarn which is 53% wool and 47% acrylic. It is the Cactus Flower color scheme which is a gorgeous blend of bright magenta, mustard, deep orange, and dark brown. These colors to me represent Autumn! This yarn is a very light weight worsted at only 1.75 oz, so very breakable and hard to unravel back with if you make a stitch mistake. I know because I had to frog back about 4 rows when I realized I had dropped a couple of stitches, well the yarn broke and I could not unravel anymore. The scarf is now 22 stitches wide compared to 24 stitches when I began, but I figure it won't be noticeable once it is wrapped around your neck. :-)

This gorgeous scarf will be a set that accompanies a really cute piece of headwear. You will have to see the duo once the scarf is complete. ;-)

On a different note, the snow has melted that we received last week and the temperatures have been in the upper 60s. Yesterday, the hubby and I went on a short bike ride. The single tracks on the Park City Mountain Resort are covered in gorgeous fall leaves. I would have taken a few pics of them but once I am biking up these trails I do not want to jump off my bike plus all I had was my cell phone. But once we made it to McPolin Farm I did take a moment to capture a quick mountainside pic of the changing colors. It was taken with my phone so not a great as it could be, but I also read that if you want to take pictures of fall leaves you need to take them when there is a slight overcast to really pick up their vibrant colors. As you can see, it was a very sunny afternoon!

I hope you all have a great week! Take a moment and check out other great WIPs over at Tami's blog.

FO Friday - Houndstooth Crochet Scarf

Hello and a happy Friday to you! We had a small dusting of snow on Wednesday and Thursday! It's crazy to see all the snow on the mountains when we still have such green trees and grass. It won't stay, but it might mean we will have a great ski season! I'm crossing my fingers and toes!!

Well, just in time for the sudden drop in temps, I made a Houndstooth Scarf by Elk Studio. I wanted a classic look and I just love the classic houndstooth textile pattern. You just can't beat that classic black and white look for Winter especially a houndstooth jacket!!

It never fails when I begin making a scarf my little scarf thief appears. Yep, my daughter has already claimed it! Time to make another and this time make it in secret ;-).

Doesn't she look so satisfied with her steal!!

The scarf is shorter than what I normally make, but I ran out of the off white yarn and instead of buying more decided to just end it. My DD wants me to add buttons on the ends and I might do that if I find the right ones. I think the length is perfect to fit under her black pleated wool coat.

I'm linking with Tami's FO Friday page!! Have a great weekend!

FO Friday - Another Granny Square Scarf

I have actually completed something for a change! I had this soft adorable scarf yarn that I had purchased from Hobby Lobby along with some coordinating I Love This Yarn. I just made a few mini-granny squares and joined them with the scarf yarn. Then I did a border around the entire scarf and added some tassels. It's a very quick and simple scarf. I do love the colors. So this quick project took care of some of my scarf envy from Pinterest. It is also satisfying when I work on a project that I designed myself (even though it wasn't a very complicated design). :-)

Click on picture to view in a larger screen to really see the gorgeous color!

Take a moment and check out other FOs at Tami's Amis Blog. Have a great weekend! It is forecasting for a rainy weekend so I might be able to finish up some projects.

Pinterest Inspiration - Scarves, Shawls, Fabric Wall Art & Stockings

I have been MIA for the past two weeks due to moving. We only moved further into town, but a move is a move. All the packing and deciding to keep this and that was very overwhelming. Now it is the unpacking and deciding where we should now have this and that in the new home! Plus the new home is a tri-level with 4 flights of stairs! But once all moved in, it will be worth all the anxiety. We are now in the heart of Park City walking distance to main street and Park City Mountain Resort. So with all the moving I have not had anytime to crochet! I have had time to peruse Pinterest while at work though..hehehe! ;-)

With the crisp Autumn coolness in the morning air lately, I have been researching new scarf and shawl patterns. I found these lovelies!

This image is on the blog Black on Gold. It is a fashion blog and there is no pattern for the scarf but it is so cute and I think I can figure it out.
Very cute shawl from lorka on flickr. Again no pattern, but I think I can find the pattern on Ravelry.
Gorgeous shawl by Ecl at Dusoleil on Ravelry.
Now that I am in a new home, I of course need some new décor! My bedroom has a very high ceiling that means a very tall wall. So I saw this cute crafty idea to add a few pops of color without breaking the bank. You take fabric wrap it around a rectangle piece of Styrofoam and staple on the back!

A new place calls for new Christmas décor as well! I have been debating on making new stockings for the family for awhile now. I love the burlap look and think it would go so well with our new home!

Simple but cute!

I am hoping to be back in the groove of crocheting and finishing up a few of my WIPs this week! I hope some of these pins from Pinterest inspire you as well!

WIP Wednesday - Granny Square Scarf

Happy Wednesday!! A few weeks ago I was attempting to work on the sweet eleanor scarf. I had to frog what I had started and start over. I decided to attempt it again when I went on a car trip at the end of June. Well, this pattern takes a lot of counting and that is difficult to do when you are riding in a car with a talkative hubby! So I decided to just go simple and worked on a granny square scarf. I would have completed it during our road trip, but I only took along two balls of yarn! It needs probably another half of ball to complete it. It has sat on my crochet pile for the past couple of weeks and now it is time to finish it up.

I love this yarn. It is Woodlands Tweedstripes by Lion Brand. I love the blue accent color. I will add a couple of buttons at one end so it can become an infinity scarf.

I have also worked on the African Flower afghan by making more squares. I am almost out of the white yarn, so I will need to replenish my stock. Looking at what I have completed, I realize that the color scheme is pretty much blue, sienna, and white. I wasn't planning on a prominent blue look, but I do seem to have a lot of blue yarn in my stash.

I hope you all have a wonderful week. Maybe I will have this scarf completed and can post a FO on Friday! Please take a moment and hop over to Tami's Amis blog for many other WIP's!

FO Friday - Lacy Scarf

Hello, It is finally Friday!! This week was a long one. It always is when you are anticipating a three day weekend. I don't have any big plans for Memorial Day. I will probably go on a nice long bike ride and enjoy this nice weather we have been experiencing. Maybe do some single tracks at Round Valley Loop. It is really the only trail area that can handle bikes right now. The trails along Park City's Mid Mountain still have patches of snow and they are way too wet. We try to keep the trails in good condition for hikers and bikers.

Anyways, to my Finished Object for this Friday!! I completed my Lacy Scarf that I began on May 8th. I had completed the crocheting portion by the 10th but had not weaved in all the tails until last night. Yep, it sat on top of my crochet basket for two weeks just sighing at me to complete it. I finally decided I was tired of its poor sighing and weaved in its tails and added some buttons to make it into an infinity scarf.

I decided to make blocks of blue with the brown and blue stripes meeting in the back and front. It could also be worn where the stripes are on the side when you wrap it.

I had to pull out O' Lucy to model the scarf for me. My daughter was in no mood to be my model.
It was my first time using Redheart Soft Yarn. It is a heavier weight and gives the scarf a fuller and softer feel. I will love this scarf this coming winter. That is if I can keep it from my daughter!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Take a moment to check out Tami's Amis blog and the many other creative bloggers with their FOs.

WIP Wednesday - Lacy Scarf

Hello everyone! I cannot believe it is Wednesday already! The weather was just beautiful all week until yesterday. The rain has come in and it is wet and cold. But on the bright side, there are so many pretty daffodils and tulips blooming. It's crazy how one day there is no flowers and then the next so many vibrant colors!

Historic Downtown Park City, Utah....picture courtesy of Historic Park City Utah webpage
I would have taken my own pics but the weather has been so rainy.
You can't help but love the vibrant orange and pinks in those gorgeous tulips!!

This week I have worked on my Simply Soft afghan and now working on the border! Yay!! I cannot wait to share its finish look. Hopefully by Friday it will be complete!

I came across a great sale at Michael's a couple of weeks ago. I picked up a couple skeins of Red Heart Soft yarn. It is a slight bit thicker than my go-to Caron Simply Soft yarn. I of course stuck with my favorite colors, blue and brown.

I have been itching to use it, so I decided to do up my quick go-to scarf pattern. It is a free downloadable pattern on lionbrand.com. If I use one color scheme, it takes maybe two hours to complete. Mainly because I prefer to make extra long scarves to achieve that double wrap look. It's a fairly simple pattern. This time I decided to try alternating colors, which has become pretty time consuming so far. I might play around with the color pattern and see what works for me. It is the Lion Brand Crochet Lacy Scarf pattern. I have made numerous scarves with this pattern. I sometimes make it into an infinity scarf or add decorative buttons. It is such a lovely look once complete. Here is my progress so far with this one:

Thanks for stopping by!! I am hoping to be able to post a completed Simply Soft Afghan on Friday!! I am crossing all fingers and toes to have it completed this week.
