Dancing in Daisies Pillow

Hello all and a Happy Friday!! If you stopped by last week you read how I completed my Dancing in Daisies Blanket! Well, after completing it I had four extra daisies remaining. I decided to whip up a quick pillow with the left overs! I completely went off the cuff and figured it out as I went.

The front of pillow consist of 4 daisy squares. I kept the look of the flat braid join to match the blanket and joined them with this technique. I then did a half double crochet (hdc) stitch border in the honey and single crochet (sc) stitch in the medium blue.

For the backside of the pillow I went with a traditional granny square with the hdc and sc stitches as the border. I also made a filler pillow out of a cream colored cotton fabric. I joined the two sides with the medium blue in two rows of single crochet.

I am very pleased with the end result!! This was a quick and easy project! I now have the pillow bug and will have to make more! One blogger that makes wonderful pillows is Lucy at Attic 24. She just completed some really colorful and bright cushions

I do love my earth tones and blues, but I am in need of some bright Spring colors. Time to check out my stash and see what bright colors I have...might need to go on a yarn shopping trip. ;-)

Everyone have a great weekend!

Dancing in Daisies Blanket Completed!!!

Finally after close to a year I have completed my Dancing in Daisies Blanket! I had ran out of the honey and medium blue yarn and re-ordered back in December. The box of yarn had been sitting on top of my cabinet along with the blanket when I finally pulled them down last week. I was amazed to see that I only needed to work up 21 more squares and join them to the rest of the blanket. So I went to work and it is now complete, border and all!!

The completed afghan/blanket measures 76 inches by 44 inches. It is so soft and plush from using the Red Heart Soft yarn. I love the look of the flat braid join, but I don't think I will be using this joining method very often. It wasn't a difficult joining method once you got the first 4 squares completed. I just didn't like when the four squares are joined a slight "hole" effect is caused. I had to go back and stitch close some of these joining areas. I just felt that when you are snuggling under the blanket the holes could be snagged and then made larger through years of use. For the border, I decided to do a roll of half double crochet in the honey all around the blanket and a scallop edge using the medium blue. I am so very satisfied with the end result.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!! I am linking up with Tami's Amis' blog for more wonderful FO Fridays!

WIP Wednesday - Dancing in Daisies!!

I pulled out my project box/suitcase and began squaring up my daisies for my Dancing in Daisies Blanket. I keep my little project box on top of the entertainment center in my bedroom. I have a stuffed Eeyore that sits on top and guards my projects. Well, upon taking pictures for you guys of my progress I was photobombed!

Blocking my squares and who do I see, Eeyore photobombing!

I decided to go for it since he was already in the picture. So enjoy the photos.

If you have been following my progress, you know that I ordered the wrong color in the Red Heart Soft. I actually am glad for the color goof up change. I love how the daisies are more visible with the darker blue. My plan is to have the blue as the center border and the honey as my outer border for each square. I am then going to attempt to join using the flat braid crochet method. I have not tried this method and hope it goes well. Also, how many of you block your blocks even if the yarn is 100% acrylic? I didn't block on my African Flower Aghan. I think they all still lined up fine while joining, but I didn't like that the edge wasn't straight. So, I am blocking as a I go this time. I do like a straight edge when I go to do a border. I haven't decided on what type of border as of yet, but I still have plenty of time to figure it out. My plan is for it to be 9 x 9 rows. The blanket should in the end measure out to be roughly 55 x 55 before a border.

I hope you all have a great rest of the week. I won't have a FO this Friday, but hopefully I will by next Friday! I am linking up with Tami's blog again this Wednesday. Go and check out other WIPs.

WIP Wednesday - Jar Cosies, Flower Collage, & Scarf

Happy Wednesday!! I have a few WIPs on my plate. I am still working on the African Flower Afghan and Dancing in Daisies Blanket. I have decided to go with the light blue and brown Red Heart Soft yarn for the color scheme on the Dancing in Daisies Blanket. I tried a couple of other colors, but they just didn't pan out.

I was able to complete another jar cosie.

I still have two more jars to crochet cosies for. I am loving these quick crafty jar cosies. I am thinking of adding an applique to one of the jars. Maybe a flower or heart.

I have also steadily been working on the Flower Collage. I have added a couple more flowers and still working on some leaf ideas.

Placing the flowers on poster board to get an idea of placement and if I need anymore flowers.

Pretty red flower pattern with buttons. Croco Flower pattern by Bonita Patterns called for 7 petals but I like it with just 6 petals. I did make some sand colored ones with the 7 petals and they look nice.

I found this really pretty scarf pattern on Ravelry. It is called the Sweet Eleanor Scarf and designed by Quince Tart. It isn't a difficult pattern to follow, but (yeah a but) I think I messed up on it somewhere. So I will be frogging and retrying. I have a road trip scheduled at the end of the week and it will be my car ride project.

Take a moment and hop over to Tami's Amis blog to check out other Wednesday WIPs. Have a great week!!

WIP Wednesday - Still Pushing Onward

Hello and Happy Wednesday!! I am still working on a few projects that seem to be very long-term.

African Flower Afghan project has really taken a backseat. I haven't made any new squares for it in the past month.

Dancing in Daisies Blanket is still a WIP. I have completed all the center daisies. I just haven't decided on the color scheme. I do love the brown and blue that I started with, but I'm thinking of a more denim blue to go with the brown. I'm also considering adding some black-eyed-susies to the mix for maybe the center portion of the blanket. Yes, a total WIP at this point.

Flower Collage is still a fun project. I have added a few crochet butterflies. I found a very easy pattern on Ravelry by Lindsay Haynie. They are so cute and quick to make.

I also decided to add some of the daisies to the collage. Tillie Tulip's Daisy Tutorial is still my go to daisy pattern. They just work up so quick and cute.

The next pattern I'm wanting to add to the collage is a few leaves. I just have to begin my research on Ravelry and Pinterest to find which patterns I like best. If anyone has a suggestion of a leaf pattern that they find easy and quick, please let me know in a comment.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week. Please take a moment and hop over to Tami's Amis blog to check out other WIP's!

WIP Wednesday - Dancing in Daisies

Spring has finally sprung here in the Wasatch Mountains!! My allergies are really wrecking havoc from all the freshly blooming wildflowers and trees! Had a great walk yesterday and took a few pictures of the blooming wildflowers along my way. Please enjoy some of our beautiful native plants.

It is still early in our Spring, so not as many wildflowers as there will be in a couple more weeks.

I was so inspired from my walk that I had to finally begin on my daisy blanket!! The pattern is so much easier than I thought it would be!

Thanks for stopping by today!! This blog has helped me really become focused on projects that I have been wanting to do or complete. Knowing that I need to share with you each week keeps my hooks and yarn busy!! Please take a moment and hop over to Tami's Amis and Other Creations: WIPW and check out other creative bloggers and their WIPs!! Have a wonderful week!!

Daisy Blanket Inspiration

I am such a Pinterest fanatic! Recently I came across this pin:

Picture acquired from Pinterest
When I clicked on the pin it didn't take me to any original site that could direct me to the pattern. I searched Ravelry for a pattern close to this one, and came up short. I have been searching for about 2 weeks now. I want to make this blanket!! Well, I happened to be on Pinterest today and came across this lovely pin:
Lanas De Ana blog - Daisy Blanket
The blog didn't have a tutorial and it was in French, but it had a link!! Yes, this wonderful blogger linked to the original tutorial.
Picture acquired from Tillie Tulip Blog

Tillie Tulip Daisy Tutorial is a great picture tutorial. I am so looking forward to adding this to my project list. I love daisies and this will be the perfect Spring project. I will post pics once I begin!!
