I didn't do any crocheting, but gardening has done wonders for my soul.</p><p>I am saddened that we will not be on the old homestead this coming growing season, but I am looking forward to a simplified lifestyle. </p><p>We headed out East for the last weeks of October. We enjoyed our trip so much. We did run into some rough weather on the way out and the windshield and roof of the truck got messed up from someone slinging a mud flap. We came back through Louisiana to New Mexico so we would not get stuck in that horrible early-season snow and cold snap through Nebraska to Wyoming. I can now say that I have been to all the Southern rim states now!!</p><p>Once we were back, I began the job-hunting chore. It was brutal at first. I had been out of the interview game for some years now. Luckily, I found a job very quickly and it is with an accounting firm!! No more administrative/personal assistance for me!! The best thing too is they were willing to conform to my start date of Feb 1st!! They offered me more than what I am making currently and there I have advancement room!! I am over excited to begin this new job. I wished I could start tomorrow, but I have to stay until I can get my severance. The severance is what will get us the new camper to begin our RV lifestyle!!!</p><p>So I will suck it up for another month. Another cherry on top about the new job is that it is hybrid. I only go into the office one day out of the week. The rest is remote work!! I am serious when I say that I am over the moon happy to find this position!!!!!</p><p>So the holidays have come and gone. I did not overly decorate the house. We barely did anything outside. Most of the Christmas decorations are at their expiration date and will be going into the trash when I begin taking everything down on Monday. I started doing some small undecorating this past week so it won't be so much at one time.</p><p>So here is a roundup of the year. It was a good year. There were some decisions that were forced upon me, but I think my new career chapter will be the best yet!! As for gardening, I had some struggles in the beginning but found my niche in the end. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh96VZhWFGdN1-peaTbiBgZwkFXX72blsx31oV9rI7oBMlKA5D15d2nm5Ptt3wGGLopOB_Oe2iZTqHwJpGc7vCDgnUbQ_kVssvZ4sgBOzelNz4mqBXuFttXlZhtNwYlc7wYToXCWwvtdqkC5VmqEwus5B_blukJEJz5H97vWlJs0_wKS9daiWmgDDYRTQ/s2880/20220706_090647.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; The mornings are in the mid-30s and afternoons low-70s. I cut down and pulled up all my sunflowers this past weekend. I did save a few of the stalks and seed heads. I still need to start harvesting all the seeds I have so far.</p><p>I planted more bulbs over the weekend. I transplanted my pinnacle hydrangea to a more sunny spot in the yard. It is nothing but a woodsy bush right now. Maybe it will come back. </p><p>I have 64 more tulip bulbs to plant. I think I will place them throughout the back corner garden and the front one. I hope I am still at the old homestead this spring. I just cannot tell with Stacey some days.</p><p>I did do up a fresh-cut flower arrangement using mostly zinnias. I loved the fall colors it was vibing.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyhZTG8oGEQ64MPapbs_QWZkOpHaoomAWMBJ6MbpPYwOOEwHTa6-0RDig958r4eKV2j8RN5zdECLi4_B3rl5A' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><br /><p>My cosmos are blooming so pretty right now. I know if we do end up with a house with a yard, I will plant a bunch of cosmos. They are so whimsical looking.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyi3BSHmBXJBpXr2DUuRyMbJaUJvt25opa0tO2khp24KwcDrmyqyayPX-xNDc3cwlhmXbfJ2cGtQV23yILWrw' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><br /><p>The pretty cream mum I planted with a few pansies is showing touches of lavender. It is so beautiful.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw4Railz1NLDrYtEvIP3XEa5WVQJRXd0_yRXJUlGdcXx2j5wn-12BdWYXh2meGaUTEhQWajo163mOfy_sGAhAAn5c9pMrBwYvDfDsXIXARrp1GW3_iIidNOh9IWyW2zE7J6g12E27J3blC_R2bPlpVU0pktVELpTooSTFpZwDUe7D-bii4qot9g2NR7w/s4000/20221001_153210.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw4Railz1NLDrYtEvIP3XEa5WVQJRXd0_yRXJUlGdcXx2j5wn-12BdWYXh2meGaUTEhQWajo163mOfy_sGAhAAn5c9pMrBwYvDfDsXIXARrp1GW3_iIidNOh9IWyW2zE7J6g12E27J3blC_R2bPlpVU0pktVELpTooSTFpZwDUe7D-bii4qot9g2NR7w/w288-h640/20221001_153210.jpg" width="288" /></a></div><br /><p>This weekend will be a few more bulb-planting and probably looking at ways to over-winter my geraniums and lantana plants. Other than that, yard work and gardening are petering out. I will need to cut back the iris and gladiolus next weekend and ensure all the beds are weeded.</p>wynette vasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12197954765405309774noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5223932582852213186.post-7763389777667271352022-09-29T08:00:00.005-07:002022-09-29T08:00:26.905-07:00Fall is in the Air!!<p> We have been staying around the high 70s for the past couple of weeks. We are dropping into the low 60s during the day and high 30s at night starting tomorrow. Rain is coming as well. Fall is definitely in the air!! The apples are just about ready for picking. I was able to pick a container of plums before they passed their prime. </p><p>Sunflowers are ready to be pulled. There are some blooms left but mainly droopy heads of sunflowers. I have over 60 bulbs to plant this weekend. I think I will cut back the iris and maybe the gladiolus too. I have three that are still in bloom, but after this weekend they will be spent. I want to get all the flower beds clean and weed-free before winter hits.</p><p>I have one more mowing of the grass this weekend and then that should be it for the season. I will wait right before we head out on vacation in October to plant all the mums I have in containers into the ground. They might come back next year and might not. I am not too worried about it.</p><p>I did begin collecting some of the sunflower seeds. I have quite a bit just from three sunflower heads. I have a lot more to let dry out some more and then I will harvest the seeds. I will work on a head each night until they are done.</p><p>I am kinda relieved that we will be moving in July. It gives me the opportunity to enjoy the hiking and biking trails this spring and summer without worrying about plants so much. What survives next season survives. Wherever we land next year, I will set up a really good irrigation system so watering plants doesn't become an obsession again.</p><p>One thing I will keep in my landscape wherever we may end up is definitely sweet alyssum. I cut back this hedge of alyssum either late July or early August and it has flushed back even better!!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrZ3AZ9DIXG13xbz9Fur-YNvQbgtsVwZ75DWwYJJyOrjqtP-_aZYtemUrrEYy4RHq6etshq9GI5RiX20sKEPRCfLOey8qaOOw18VSrmhu4DSPh_WcUGQ44D4o0l9cRKIPt6SMBttOsh1Aco4DgUIpMhB9BNGnpIfKPbBgkYsTnaS2ppnSamvvZO75iqg/s1800/20220929_065205.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1793" data-original-width="1800" height="638" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrZ3AZ9DIXG13xbz9Fur-YNvQbgtsVwZ75DWwYJJyOrjqtP-_aZYtemUrrEYy4RHq6etshq9GI5RiX20sKEPRCfLOey8qaOOw18VSrmhu4DSPh_WcUGQ44D4o0l9cRKIPt6SMBttOsh1Aco4DgUIpMhB9BNGnpIfKPbBgkYsTnaS2ppnSamvvZO75iqg/w640-h638/20220929_065205.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>I have really enjoyed the little flower bed between the patio and greenhouse. I have thus far planted nearly 80 bulbs in the back corner garden. I think this will look so gorgeous this Spring. I will plant a few tulip bulbs in that garden as well. I think between the daffodils, tulips, irises, and peonies that garden will be very vibrant this spring!!</p><p>I need to pick up one more package of the double-bloom pink daffodils and one more package of the double-bloom yellow daffodils. I am just shy of 10 plants to finish up a line of daffodils along the left side fence in the back corner garden with the pink daffodils and I decided to plant the yellow ones along part of the fence line in the side yard. I need one more package of the yellow ones to finish up that fence line as well.</p><p>I went to Home Depot on Saturday with the sole intention to pick up potting soil and 1 more package of daffodils. Well, I ended up with three new houseplants, four mums, six pansies, six dragon snaps, two cabbages, and one aster. I blame it on Keith because he had me look at some mums and then I saw the cabbage and it lead to potting up three new fall containers.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhc1G7nCQRjz16i6uupNpGnAtKKwhyM_gkA3IUKiq_j8jC_U9iqCIgFwfB-nYEQYc8MaEJs1to1V-EVGz0oF_k_xkxrwbgZux2Q4_Oq0PUN-Z0ojmKk7UfQsZ3K5KL40sAPTRaF_juRVKshlYzoUN5PKeX-Row3xxIBWdyqk_r4SwkI7ZIhO4Fwmm89g/s4000/20220917_152425.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhc1G7nCQRjz16i6uupNpGnAtKKwhyM_gkA3IUKiq_j8jC_U9iqCIgFwfB-nYEQYc8MaEJs1to1V-EVGz0oF_k_xkxrwbgZux2Q4_Oq0PUN-Z0ojmKk7UfQsZ3K5KL40sAPTRaF_juRVKshlYzoUN5PKeX-Row3xxIBWdyqk_r4SwkI7ZIhO4Fwmm89g/w288-h640/20220917_152425.jpg" width="288" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I love the color combo of this mum and pansies!!</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p>I did move out the huge lime sweet potato vine from my front porch container. It had around eight tubers on it. I am going to try and grow my own vines next season with these tubers. I tried to remove the lavender that I placed in the container next to the garage. The bad boy is rooted in. I will have to try again soon because it requires such little water that any planter combination might end up looking like crap. I placed a boxed wood in the center of the planter and they are fighting one another for dominance. So I will attempt to remove the lavender on Sunday and transplant it in the front corner garden area.</p><p>The rest of the weekend I spent cleaning up our master bathroom so I can repaint it during the week. It has mold all above the shower area from when we removed the wallpaper and painted only one coat of paint when we moved in. I will apply some mold-resistant kilz paint and then paint it the original blue color we painted in the beginning hopefully tonight and tomorrow night. I think I might paint the hallway bathroom the same blue this week as well. We will then have to remove the wallpaper in the hallway and paint. Rango and Pepper decided to put a hole in the wall and now that it is patched we have to repaint the whole hallway. It is crazy how a golf ball size hole can cost so much time and money to repair. I am pretty sure we will have to repaint areas in the living room as well. The dogs have a solid dirty spot by their beds that are against the wall. I might be able to steam clean the areas. I hope that is all I need to do.</p><p>I think this might be the last weekend I can get a fresh-cut flower arrangement out of my sunflowers. I made an arrangement using only sunflowers with purple sweet potato vine as my frog.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyw-MDUGKp7b7aEN7t7SYdEaJzN5C6L7KrE3-uvrgR09swo6v3l30zywEZpcm2lK4td3jKnoqlSGUwc_Q-Ayw' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><br /><p><br /></p>wynette vasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12197954765405309774noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5223932582852213186.post-8526445674547914232022-09-13T08:32:00.001-07:002022-09-13T08:32:12.647-07:00Changes are happening.....<p> There will be some huge changes happening in my life in the upcoming months. I already knew my contract with my present employer was ending in July next year. I just was not aware that she was going to severance me beginning in February. I was going to begin my job hunting in February, but now I will have to start as soon as we return from vacation in November. This will also impact our leasing of the old homestead I am sure. We have not discussed that aspect of the job termination just yet. I know last year when I received my final raise from her, she had included $1000.00 a month off my rent as part of my pay. So, if my severance ends in July does that mean I have to be moved out by then or will we need to negotiate rent? I am not sure where I will find employment, but if it is as far away as what Keith drives each day already, we will move closer to the air base.</p><p>Right now I will concentrate on revamping my poor resume that hasn't seen the light of day in 15 years. Again, I am not surprised that the company was closing its doors. I am just surprised that she wants to end our working status in February. I kinda see her point of view. If there is no company come July, why keep paying someone an additional 6 months of pay. I get it and totally understand. I was just a little floored with how soon this is happening now. I feel that I will find a new job quickly. The worst case is I work for Cynthia full-time until I find a more suitable position. I think I could work for Cynthia with no problems, but she might not want to match my pay and Keith is worried about her age and the longevity of the company.</p><p>My plans for the garden next year are vamping down. I will not try and plant as many plants next year as I had planned. I might try and start a few of the plants I have in seeds, but not all of them. One reason is why waste good seeds in a place I might not see their full growing season and also we will not run irrigation to the back corner garden now. That is a lot of hand watering!!</p><p>I do want to try my hand at growing the Muenster Lavendar from seed this winter. I know wherever we end up, I will always plant me some Muenster Lavender. I will also harvest some of my sunflowers for seeds. I will not utilize my galvanized raised planter beds. I will tear those back down and just plant seeds/plants straight into the ground next season in the areas I have the raised beds.</p><p>I am nervous and excited about the next stage in my career. I will have to get used to working with other people again and working back in a full office atmosphere, but it is only for another 10 to 15 years at best that I have to have a game face. LOL!!</p><p>On to a fun topic (gardening), I finally got some blooms on my other dahlia that I planted in the back corner garden. It is more yellow than orange. I plan on digging up the tubers and replanting them next season in containers.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgagHqtt4J6Fw3ckURBpgiLn9HqGl9jUhb7SImHg4pgKiV8jiK8HoZjteXnOKGn1RE_UN1StIfdlOsXtoYqwtniaFzMOJjFn6XWzO6ylPGe9G-ms8kBlHPv3o8WJbn7R2zczVP5kwdtrX_e2hAXvax3a5l1Tz08GpItFWTblqTiAKBJUZXW-BHeyiYF0Q/s3362/20220913_074705.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3362" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgagHqtt4J6Fw3ckURBpgiLn9HqGl9jUhb7SImHg4pgKiV8jiK8HoZjteXnOKGn1RE_UN1StIfdlOsXtoYqwtniaFzMOJjFn6XWzO6ylPGe9G-ms8kBlHPv3o8WJbn7R2zczVP5kwdtrX_e2hAXvax3a5l1Tz08GpItFWTblqTiAKBJUZXW-BHeyiYF0Q/w342-h640/20220913_074705.jpg" width="342" /></a></div><br /><p>Another pleasant surprise in the garden this past weekend was another gorgeous type of sunflower blooming. It is the fuzziest sunflower I have ever seen. I just love it!!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzEGjNdCDy0E64CvJFaP12VwfAUN9Vyqg_lNLnyT96GhR4NqbCTk7w9WgXGR3H9Lghjo2Qbb3b_8GXeRBQaOs8rQwK-aNNKy0i4tYI8tGdaw5PxypnTFNd8I7KGEX0AiRj569mpS-MZ6S5YGYRkV4ACDlNy5ROuW0GOERVvOiuS60sucwyShGtNPBwzw/s2642/20220911_144059.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2642" data-original-width="1669" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzEGjNdCDy0E64CvJFaP12VwfAUN9Vyqg_lNLnyT96GhR4NqbCTk7w9WgXGR3H9Lghjo2Qbb3b_8GXeRBQaOs8rQwK-aNNKy0i4tYI8tGdaw5PxypnTFNd8I7KGEX0AiRj569mpS-MZ6S5YGYRkV4ACDlNy5ROuW0GOERVvOiuS60sucwyShGtNPBwzw/w404-h640/20220911_144059.jpg" width="404" /></a></div><br /><p>In early July, I transplanted a bunch of succulents from this one planter I had tried to keep alive all winter. A few fails were not producing any vegetables at the time frame I thought I would. Let's face it, I only have a handful of cherry tomatoes that might truly produce this season. I lost spinach, lettuce, okra, cucumbers, dill, chives, and eggplants. </p><p>My goal this season was to make the backyard a little oasis that we could enjoy. I think we have succeeded. I sit out on the back patio and in the corner garden nearly every morning. We did have some type of animal die under our shed and sitting outside in the evenings is difficult until the smell completely dissipates. But other than that, we have enjoyed our backyard all season.</p><p>Many of the flowers that I thought would not survive have and not only survived but are thriving. I am loving how the grass has come back in our backyard. Last year the landlord had completely devastated the backyard with repairs to the septic and then trenching electricity to his garage in the back. We had a rock and dirt backyard last year. We have worked so hard to finally have some green grass. It isn't perfect but at least it is grass.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIm-QLIgTXjX_Fu4bRLPmvTmXEbnbDkOGS-KCVpLLDlYFr_wlCr5FcrwGjM_Eb5NVdCpbNRQLrq06TFrGCkROJEj5VyCED_ndff6cRoZ_atDKVhtp0_YCSaLqlxQSqv5O_1EEikWz3T-55dFZ6ISQJQOXs1HiNyWUttzvO5oNkywwYklbALzZGlCM27A/s4000/20220827_171607.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIm-QLIgTXjX_Fu4bRLPmvTmXEbnbDkOGS-KCVpLLDlYFr_wlCr5FcrwGjM_Eb5NVdCpbNRQLrq06TFrGCkROJEj5VyCED_ndff6cRoZ_atDKVhtp0_YCSaLqlxQSqv5O_1EEikWz3T-55dFZ6ISQJQOXs1HiNyWUttzvO5oNkywwYklbALzZGlCM27A/w288-h640/20220827_171607.jpg" width="288" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This whole area was nothing but dirt and rocks<br />last summer. I am very surprised it is still standing considering how horrible Keith and I really felt. But the back corner garden is coming along nicely. I do have some sunflowers blooming in that area. They are nowhere as tall as the ones in the sideyard, but they are still full of buds. I plan on planting some daffodil bulbs among the irises this weekend. I think the two plants intermingling will be so beautiful this spring. Plus the texture of their foliage will add to the cottage garden vibe. I think it is also time for me to plant the yarrow and cone flowers that are in pots in the front garden beds. Water just pours straight through the pots that the yarrow is in. </p><p>My goal these next few weeks is to get all the flower beds clear of any weeds. I will need to spread roundup all over the grass and weeds in the front corner garden bed and begin structuring out the layout for it. Some grass is growing back up in the existing flower bed. So some front yard maintenance this weekend. It is hard to work on those beds sometimes because they are in full sun all day. I think the tree might shade that area for a very short time in the morning. But I will just dawn my sun hat and get to it this weekend. I have such high hopes for the front yard next year.</p>wynette vasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12197954765405309774noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5223932582852213186.post-52689868573532465022022-08-23T08:09:00.003-07:002022-08-23T08:09:28.190-07:00Enjoying the Flowers!!<p> Not many pictures were taken this weekend of the gardens. I cleaned up the front flower bed around the gladiolus and planted what tulip bulbs I had on hand in that area. My gladiolus is thinning out this year. I think this Spring I will need to add some fresh bulbs. I have a lot of small plants growing from the original one, but they are not producing flowers. I think adding at least one bag of bulbs will give it a good refresh.</p><p>I am still loving the small beds around the back patio. They are just so whimsical and magical with the sweet alyssum and showy baby's breath. I also just love how the violas peak through all the white and green.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC1E8XZH_u6jb0dC779jLAsCf0AtuHpADy8V-XUTRD7mA9unUo0Qz1bUmtZLf2jlqO4-BIqKUU6NuOhnSxM0u4-lvPwENQfw-ruqcrh1c7Anjp_CWjB0k-m1cLDeql5-54oB3H-nXLaZDSoG5DQW7GnsZRiupGoi3FzdLGIkqZfUPG5smvJ71vT7OWcw/s4000/20220818_070135.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC1E8XZH_u6jb0dC779jLAsCf0AtuHpADy8V-XUTRD7mA9unUo0Qz1bUmtZLf2jlqO4-BIqKUU6NuOhnSxM0u4-lvPwENQfw-ruqcrh1c7Anjp_CWjB0k-m1cLDeql5-54oB3H-nXLaZDSoG5DQW7GnsZRiupGoi3FzdLGIkqZfUPG5smvJ71vT7OWcw/w288-h640/20220818_070135.jpg" width="288" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #351c75;">This was early morning and the violas were still sleeping!!</span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ5xvLU7yEh7Ci9dHmCQsO-1ipBelJ4K2oVFokyUcbMCPPc1uMx3HuLAjkk2TUm1klCtwxMMu04dV3enfRlrt1sl-UPIcssRqwpTjixOHh9N1mtSpcmehO_GareH8ve9F557H9fiPOj3ssCUguf6pkE7Csyj-ZSoCTzEKRw1h4ODMZjMAcr8EC1ZYEKw/s4000/20220818_073145.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><span style="color: #4c1130;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ5xvLU7yEh7Ci9dHmCQsO-1ipBelJ4K2oVFokyUcbMCPPc1uMx3HuLAjkk2TUm1klCtwxMMu04dV3enfRlrt1sl-UPIcssRqwpTjixOHh9N1mtSpcmehO_GareH8ve9F557H9fiPOj3ssCUguf6pkE7Csyj-ZSoCTzEKRw1h4ODMZjMAcr8EC1ZYEKw/w288-h640/20220818_073145.jpg" width="288" /></span></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #4c1130;">I am just loving this little plant that packs a punch!!</span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6Ig9g6nm9UtfjejqYIfHLqFjZSEm_j9vcpcImh4sFUMXD2RshoUB3wwTRAtAn6IPzx4KAnIwMuidotB_yRrGfz-d2vyWUAm7yhhBlJq0_lUAWCdzTvWBIGYenH1sxf8mm-0WSnfa-V-6O3g9AO2tD2c9VrJAC9cyeyy-o8F-XfV8U8gzjD6r-0QD7Kw/s4000/20220819_062912.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6Ig9g6nm9UtfjejqYIfHLqFjZSEm_j9vcpcImh4sFUMXD2RshoUB3wwTRAtAn6IPzx4KAnIwMuidotB_yRrGfz-d2vyWUAm7yhhBlJq0_lUAWCdzTvWBIGYenH1sxf8mm-0WSnfa-V-6O3g9AO2tD2c9VrJAC9cyeyy-o8F-XfV8U8gzjD6r-0QD7Kw/w288-h640/20220819_062912.jpg" width="288" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I am looking forward to when these marigolds bloom!!</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p><br /></p><p>Another plant that is giving me joy each day is the succulents I planted in the white hanging planters for the arch. I have been figuring out layouts for the beds for next year. I did get a couple of galvanized raised beds. Keith put them together this weekend. I have to figure out the best and cheapest ways to fill them. I think I will do the no-dig method of filling the bottom with trimmed limbs and then laying cardboard over that. We shall see how it goes. We need to trim the front yard tree that is right by the drive. It has a lot of hanging limbs that need to be cut back. They will definitely fill up the beds. I just have to be mindful not to plant any perennials in the raised beds because the soil level will change when the bottom decomposes.</p><p>Speaking of decomposing, Darren and Stacey have either uncovered something dead on their property or had some very stinky compost dropped off behind our place. I cannot even sit outside without wanting to puke from the putrid smell. I will be discussing with her the horrible smell this week!!</p>wynette vasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12197954765405309774noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5223932582852213186.post-67009674966208565632022-08-18T12:50:00.006-07:002022-08-18T12:50:56.533-07:00Lets talk about sunflowers!!<p> I am so enjoying watching my sunflowers grow and begin to bloom. We have had a lot of rain these past couple of weeks. My only complaint is that it rains on the weekend. If it would just rain Mon-Wed, I would be a very happy gardener!!</p><p>I was able to work on the corner garden some this weekend. I am trying to add some containers and planter stands to really give it that cottage garden vibe. I think it is getting there but it is still a work in progress. Since it is mid-August, you cannot find many vibrant colored plants except for mums in our area. I did buy a couple of yarrow plants that had some variated colors and a chocolate cone flower along with a couple of small mums to place in some clay pot and galvanized planters. I also dug up one of the lime colored sweet potato plants that I had planted in a flower bed to see if it would live. I thought the bright green would add some dimension to the area.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO0cB2TdMd3Gkpwh5vRL_AQojv-yzFYL43vlPCcCg5z0GRHIr9iDcvJYAN3y2qnldNZTV-hOEYrH3AtuevVpZK7fxx7bC780ay2ccK_A5t79xndNeH6stSTOGfrMua2eVrybxZ6VqlKyr_fHiKtrFp0s1Iw8T4YEi-nZR5nzTCphEM9COwBV4LafnCgg/s2663/20220814_101108.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2663" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO0cB2TdMd3Gkpwh5vRL_AQojv-yzFYL43vlPCcCg5z0GRHIr9iDcvJYAN3y2qnldNZTV-hOEYrH3AtuevVpZK7fxx7bC780ay2ccK_A5t79xndNeH6stSTOGfrMua2eVrybxZ6VqlKyr_fHiKtrFp0s1Iw8T4YEi-nZR5nzTCphEM9COwBV4LafnCgg/w432-h640/20220814_101108.jpg" width="432" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #741b47;"><b>Work in progress for sure, but I am loving how it is beginning to flow.<br />The petunias were from the whiskey barrel in the side front garden.<br />They were eaten up with earwicks. Because of the new sod, they were receiving too much water. I finally found them a place in the corner flower bed in the backyard. They were so pitiful by the time I had moved them. The planter next to the garage has just blown up!! There are actually a few lily plants in the center of all those petunias. The lilies just could not keep up with the petunias. I don't even think they will bloom this year.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmLDXUBVUlBcGJIYsFxIVM93GmiNrUVEC04dn7ZXBLSSFtx7muCiGiN57pcxFiunaBd1A5z3Eoz4X3lQP5apuBTOya9-ZD7fIqPagkQdOOGe8ZB5um8UlO7eruH3FAl9lCmTkmtjNRbge_-KEmvjz4SDt_VjBKg6clxwq80_4xG3odI5dfsuH70iBLbw/s4000/20220805_064655.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmLDXUBVUlBcGJIYsFxIVM93GmiNrUVEC04dn7ZXBLSSFtx7muCiGiN57pcxFiunaBd1A5z3Eoz4X3lQP5apuBTOya9-ZD7fIqPagkQdOOGe8ZB5um8UlO7eruH3FAl9lCmTkmtjNRbge_-KEmvjz4SDt_VjBKg6clxwq80_4xG3odI5dfsuH70iBLbw/w288-h640/20220805_064655.jpg" width="288" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I just love the view through the grass!!<br />Plus the dianthus that I planted in the<br />planter between the two ornamental grasses<br />has really thrived!! I worked on weeding and cleaning up a flower bed in the front corner of the front yard this weekend. I plan on planting some of the many tulip bulbs I have ordered that should arrive in mid-October. I also have some yarrow and a wildflower mixture that attracts hummingbirds and butterflies that I will plant around the old washing machine yard ornament in that area. Other than that it is just keeping everything watered during the hot part of summer. We will start cooling down soon and then it will be time to cut back some of the annuals. I did place a few mums out in some of the planters. I had a bunch of petunias that were eaten up with aphids. I removed them and sprayed the whole plant down with Neem oil. I planted them in the corner garden and placed a few mums in their place.<br /><p><br /></p></div>wynette vasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12197954765405309774noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5223932582852213186.post-62035096975486979832022-07-29T10:22:00.004-07:002022-07-29T10:22:57.374-07:00Alyssum - My new favorite ground cover plant!!<p> I can say that this year I tested out growing from seed Alyssum. I am just in love with it!! I will definitely be using it in other areas of my yard. I am trying to get a great ground cover without having to resort to pebbles or mulch. For one, pebbles are expensive and a pain to weed. Mulch just flies away once we have our windy seasons in Spring and Fall. Then it becomes so ugly after the snow has been on it for 3 to 4 months. </p><p>I am really hoping that the alyssum will be the ground coverage for my flower beds that do not have any pebbles or mulch in them. Which is really my corner garden and a front flowerbed that I have to tackle soon. The front flower bed has a lot of pretty daffodils that sprout and bloom in the Spring, but once they die down the weeds take it over. I plan on cleaning it up these next couple of weekends. I have some tulips and daffodil bulbs coming in September and October. I plan to put them in this flower bed and transplant some of my peonies. I have one peony that has to be thinned out so badly. It is taking up most of my flower bed next to the garage. My plan is to thin it out and place some of it in the front flower bed next to the road along with the tulip and daffodil bulbs in October.</p><p>But back to my alyssum trial. The seeds germinated and really took over the small flower bed next to the shed and back patio. I had also planted some shasta daisy seeds, but they did not germinate for me. The alyssum looks so awesome mixed in with the different stone textures. The thing about alyssum is that it also comes in pretty shades of pink and purple. I will add those colors next season into my plantings!!</p><p>I did seed some next to the greenhouse too. I had an unexpected surprise sprout up with the alyssum, some cute self-seeded pansies!!</p><p>I am still loving all my flowers and still experimenting with different areas of the flower beds. I am so looking forward to next season when I will finally have all the flower beds exactly the way I want them!!</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdZnU4CuJFlbWkDjje-vSvjJzGEiv8_-UECNEs6GABpSWkWk8fNcYP0dymWR8_dJpE6r8_zSk2KsEkPSt-PNfcMog3Ei_2KEYvACJHtX6QQqRpWWm_o5v0kgxNdtN6Hz2YgxaaO4EgGh4gZMt0qfbrKa-eCcnWjcApWIXy1R-A_Aqk0nKn49iB89VQwQ/s2358/20220729_062637.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2358" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdZnU4CuJFlbWkDjje-vSvjJzGEiv8_-UECNEs6GABpSWkWk8fNcYP0dymWR8_dJpE6r8_zSk2KsEkPSt-PNfcMog3Ei_2KEYvACJHtX6QQqRpWWm_o5v0kgxNdtN6Hz2YgxaaO4EgGh4gZMt0qfbrKa-eCcnWjcApWIXy1R-A_Aqk0nKn49iB89VQwQ/w488-h640/20220729_062637.jpg" width="488" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I love how it is over-spilling onto the patio!!</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhedVeHbFYU8bxX5xTL-ZKxUrtAXAHvNCxJ6THc7yx_YStQF29nKY3FNDrHe8ephCEQ6QPV7RfxbKDPuklliPuP51DkNZfNkpAwEcrl_a6cS0GZPf_AKMvExgCLrvEbDyzwJGc8xH-8GxrHpZPXuKJaa5Y06CHloyieNXUsLpuNvx9uEFLg2UV9ZcCNSA/s2324/20220729_064024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2324" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhedVeHbFYU8bxX5xTL-ZKxUrtAXAHvNCxJ6THc7yx_YStQF29nKY3FNDrHe8ephCEQ6QPV7RfxbKDPuklliPuP51DkNZfNkpAwEcrl_a6cS0GZPf_AKMvExgCLrvEbDyzwJGc8xH-8GxrHpZPXuKJaa5Y06CHloyieNXUsLpuNvx9uEFLg2UV9ZcCNSA/w496-h640/20220729_064024.jpg" width="496" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sweet little pop of color from the pansies. <br />I cannot wait until the wildflowers finally bloom!!</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p><br /></p>wynette vasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12197954765405309774noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5223932582852213186.post-49358876482044601432022-07-22T08:23:00.004-07:002022-07-22T08:23:45.127-07:00Succulents<p> I had ordered some succulents off of Amazon a few weeks back. I thought I would give it a try and one seller was great when they came in. They arrived on time and were packaged well. The other seller took forever to come in and they were just cuttings. I am not sure about the cuttings just yet. I still have a few more to plant. But I do love the variety that came in.</p><p>I decided to take the hanging white baskets that had my pansies and sweet potato vines in and make the arch only succulents. I am loving the summer vibe these little containers are giving.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZNxldvnSgDYfFLvvt9ots3t4zLNYQCTa-NbgQywZJR3JW55TEPdwsUM0L4NR-T34iTKjSM_6ahbtIrpR48rePqOkIkiHofXpdaYsuSopfll96sxynR6iWSOpEf1ZE4Rf02bUgXN1Zr46meqMW5kMAWVKL-koQglSbXIvQCCU0YqmSUHPcs95l8XXuug/s2880/20220715_185141.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2880" data-original-width="2880" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZNxldvnSgDYfFLvvt9ots3t4zLNYQCTa-NbgQywZJR3JW55TEPdwsUM0L4NR-T34iTKjSM_6ahbtIrpR48rePqOkIkiHofXpdaYsuSopfll96sxynR6iWSOpEf1ZE4Rf02bUgXN1Zr46meqMW5kMAWVKL-koQglSbXIvQCCU0YqmSUHPcs95l8XXuug/w640-h640/20220715_185141.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>I had some random containers that needed cleaning up and these small succulents were just right for them. I salvaged the flowers I had purchased that day from Lowe's and Home Depot. Some have thrived with some patience and love while others are still struggling. </p><p>I planted these beauties in my white planters hanging on my archway. They were pretty frostbitten and had no blooms, but a few buds. They are so vibrant and healthy now!! I am really thinking about buying some more in summer colors. They come in yellow, coral, and orange also, so I might grab a few and put them in the place of the pansies and purple sweet potato vines I transplanted out of the white hanging baskets.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHbJS7MAs5AcDQ-swXwtylNl5v8e4KXBbkMiRFyHyFDuLagUy3sHpmjZBbBq6uR37oBwlhWwIhExm8J2-CWhBfL61dUAGTw_EaOgALdHFeUFTEql2ssZrawDPXc8blLsw-4iJPyMScxaRm2H_QI6OY4UETWgJgmb1DByrDcl0FyeKw1xavqPHZkZYBiQ/s1440/IMG_20220709_120533_759.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1440" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHbJS7MAs5AcDQ-swXwtylNl5v8e4KXBbkMiRFyHyFDuLagUy3sHpmjZBbBq6uR37oBwlhWwIhExm8J2-CWhBfL61dUAGTw_EaOgALdHFeUFTEql2ssZrawDPXc8blLsw-4iJPyMScxaRm2H_QI6OY4UETWgJgmb1DByrDcl0FyeKw1xavqPHZkZYBiQ/w400-h400/IMG_20220709_120533_759.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #800180; font-family: verdana; font-size: x-small;">This is the Moss Rose plant. I planted these seeds along with some Shasta daisies along the backside of the patio that butts up to the shed. The daisies do not look like they geminated or sprouted, but at least the alyssum did. If these do well this season, I will be adding more to different areas of the flowerbeds to create some nice ground coverage. I am trying to think of ways to add to the beds that will keep me from having to add mulch or any more pebbles to keep the plants thriving.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9AQgM03WkBNegUSLJYgxqcpBks50CU2z_Evmy5gPZSeJIKrFyPh4oUHi-HKLzNs92Ew3iQVL2KPtsL2fSePlqVRrtf6J3ABvYjn1NZqZs2PIdaYVp4P5Eou-hKagLh_L-uptw31y9-nAC4uYLwXJ6p3gOKpsS9TvUpDvRUUi5ghzi1sGqVW4VQy5OCw/s4000/20220711_082236.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9AQgM03WkBNegUSLJYgxqcpBks50CU2z_Evmy5gPZSeJIKrFyPh4oUHi-HKLzNs92Ew3iQVL2KPtsL2fSePlqVRrtf6J3ABvYjn1NZqZs2PIdaYVp4P5Eou-hKagLh_L-uptw31y9-nAC4uYLwXJ6p3gOKpsS9TvUpDvRUUi5ghzi1sGqVW4VQy5OCw/w288-h640/20220711_082236.jpg" width="288" /></a></div><br /><p>Last but definitely not least, I planted some extra marigolds and petunias in a container that had some pitiful carnations in it. It is placed on some old bricks from the front bed borders outside my greenhouse. I have yet to put the cover back on the greenhouse. I spent most of the cool part of the day getting an oil change on my Element. Even with making an appointment, almost 3 hours of my day was spent going, waiting, and heading back home. So by the time I made it back home, I had some time to do some reassigning of plants to different areas of the garden. I was able to repot my okra and find a new home for my cucumber plant. </p><p>Sunday I really worked on thinning out my iris at the corner of my porch. This was a transplant from another spot in the yard when we first moved in. It had taken over so much of that corner area of my front flowerbed and needed to be thinned out really badly.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNg_cHMO6OcMAlzbwdEkWpOSlKn0Qe99Bo8iwEGHTdgU3aJl7MmD0DgGUFKm9nmWCQNjG9GF-wMez1JVdLullV_x_c5ckiFzifysr7urB1ehB5Vcht7E8hLjaWRb_NJUUj35Ups5sfIunih1XvKZ_LpzdSYVvrLBBgDfTIBEHSWwaHSz3_Koy1CJ_PIw/s1388/20210531_124814.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1388" data-original-width="663" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNg_cHMO6OcMAlzbwdEkWpOSlKn0Qe99Bo8iwEGHTdgU3aJl7MmD0DgGUFKm9nmWCQNjG9GF-wMez1JVdLullV_x_c5ckiFzifysr7urB1ehB5Vcht7E8hLjaWRb_NJUUj35Ups5sfIunih1XvKZ_LpzdSYVvrLBBgDfTIBEHSWwaHSz3_Koy1CJ_PIw/w306-h640/20210531_124814.jpg" width="306" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #741b47; font-size: medium;">This is a picture from last Spring/Early Summer. I replanted them in the corner garden with the hopes they eventually make a lovely border. My dream for this corner garden is to make it into a beautiful cottage garden. I am doing a lot of research on what perennials and annuals will go in what area of the garden. I might do some containers as well by the end of the season or have the ready to be placed in next spring. I want to be able to go into this little garden and just soak in the beauty of the sweet flowers. I have to really sun map this area soon in order to have a good plan set by next spring.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3dh-p7aVurqop9ioTIDNHbl2481ORHkm7-r-2MsxfnaEJTPlISAZmT-mqQbJllMaDahlEAsY9cXkFZ1VPi3Z6BD_Lb4Cygro21dhOpUrPlzqaJOLBqYXkkPoi4I4M5y1k-qj6zIQ_ViSQAZQgV3kRtsKn0BrxHB4QEnPGubIqss_7TcpU1UIR9vHAGA/s2673/20220711_080636.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2673" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3dh-p7aVurqop9ioTIDNHbl2481ORHkm7-r-2MsxfnaEJTPlISAZmT-mqQbJllMaDahlEAsY9cXkFZ1VPi3Z6BD_Lb4Cygro21dhOpUrPlzqaJOLBqYXkkPoi4I4M5y1k-qj6zIQ_ViSQAZQgV3kRtsKn0BrxHB4QEnPGubIqss_7TcpU1UIR9vHAGA/w430-h640/20220711_080636.jpg" width="430" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>I had an extra 2 irisis that I had to just tuck into the bed where I think they might thrive.<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGFAO5pbUTTnDcy_i91q8LLdjBIFW7TNjbq_n48cBDJpeDtlTaIYeTo8W7UOgyoLEIpXiiUkYlUjAQEgPAzxBJTfsf3Fw7vVtbFDBPw_x35CD0MgcIek7VjLaWMQk1VLPZR0dwKSRVTq9Kh74Nb4y3PVWjUjgAh_ZMTfgo4gh0eK73_tb6ztIi0EXwUw/s4000/20220711_080552.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGFAO5pbUTTnDcy_i91q8LLdjBIFW7TNjbq_n48cBDJpeDtlTaIYeTo8W7UOgyoLEIpXiiUkYlUjAQEgPAzxBJTfsf3Fw7vVtbFDBPw_x35CD0MgcIek7VjLaWMQk1VLPZR0dwKSRVTq9Kh74Nb4y3PVWjUjgAh_ZMTfgo4gh0eK73_tb6ztIi0EXwUw/w288-h640/20220711_080552.jpg" width="288" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #741b47; font-size: medium;">I think the one between the two trees will do great there. My plan is to make an arch at the gate entry with some of the leftover cattle fence. I will plant the wisteria on either side so it will eventually engulf the arch. The colors are deep pink (almost mauve) and white. The struggle right now is removing all the small stumps that are through out the corner bed. I tackled some while replanting the iris. It was mid-day and getting really hot when I got around to it. I have one stubborn stump in the left side entrance that I had to walk away from due to the heat and being tired from all the digging I had done that day. But I will conquer this stubborn stump!!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY597P91h_wlvdtE6tHCw_N_anCcJbhfTDhyar9vrpV4k0CrJEfKQSjE2FtfYYsx4tZuY5oN2Btk2QLNMSFzON1qBLbxMRR8j9UZ6SUxtuMehjovepZ6ZUQTWJfneHK7W4fs3vaH7mesvUECKr3DaAHIEKw1ylvfH8pDstMjRg0bV2qD9piSk79igFOg/s4000/20220711_080641.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY597P91h_wlvdtE6tHCw_N_anCcJbhfTDhyar9vrpV4k0CrJEfKQSjE2FtfYYsx4tZuY5oN2Btk2QLNMSFzON1qBLbxMRR8j9UZ6SUxtuMehjovepZ6ZUQTWJfneHK7W4fs3vaH7mesvUECKr3DaAHIEKw1ylvfH8pDstMjRg0bV2qD9piSk79igFOg/w288-h640/20220711_080641.jpg" width="288" /></a></div><br /><p>I know that our time is limited at this old homestead, but I just cannot do what I love. I think for next season I will need to begin germinating the seeds in October or November inside. I plan on setting up a few areas in the Gym/Craft Room with some grow lights and seed heating pads in October maybe November. We do go on vacation in late October and do not return until Mid-November, so I might have to wait until we return.</p><p>The first picture is of my pitiful tomato plant. This is a Bonnie Plant Cherry Tomato. It was blooming and doing so well until we got a slight cold snap on the 20th of June. I had checked the weather and it didn't look as if it was going to get that cold. I was wrong and so many of my vegetable plants suffered. I had also just bought a bunch of flowers to plant the coming weekend and many of those got frost bit. I was able to salvage pretty much all of the flower plants, but my tomatoes, cucumbers, and eggplants got the brunt of the cold snap.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAg956fKKhQibrJWf2U43kLv0BbZ2sohRvn3GCyUiywKx0o_Fzacu3h0tLNNKOn9KVRLCx0jp_0LhRRYT6F88bDe9GGAd1JmK45gZJRPWndLGKS_d8WNjU21M9JzcjDSnqv8CN2Y8tNLBQgIA56flUFrxtya40byNJVKXxlfboIXqm00fk1mogeoG54A/s4000/20220706_162103%20(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAg956fKKhQibrJWf2U43kLv0BbZ2sohRvn3GCyUiywKx0o_Fzacu3h0tLNNKOn9KVRLCx0jp_0LhRRYT6F88bDe9GGAd1JmK45gZJRPWndLGKS_d8WNjU21M9JzcjDSnqv8CN2Y8tNLBQgIA56flUFrxtya40byNJVKXxlfboIXqm00fk1mogeoG54A/w288-h640/20220706_162103%20(1).jpg" width="288" /></a></div><br /><p>My other tomato plant has some other plants that sprouted up these past couple of weeks. Keith had built me a raised bed and I filled it with an assortment of sunflower seeds. I do have a small bean sprout in the front of the bed, but I don't think it will make it either. The before picture of my corner flowerbed is not accurate. It is prior to me being sick and the rain coming in for 2 weeks straight. The flowerbed was 10 times worse by the time I could tackle it. It took 5 days to complete in total, but the end result is awesome. I still have a few spots I could weed, but I will use the weedeater and put down some roundup instead. Pepper was able to squeeze through the decorative fence and ended up digging up all the gorgeous wildflowers. They should bloom by next month so I am not too upset. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVRjEj5u4xnKqvsnSCs1Lj4vbvY1XNxsbGPwYqIT8gBdmA-SfjMsHi7vDanZgDeXSihczM19VWLONHxnozsuZukn-6cqYwmo9uOHn_LjIDrdDg7dHYsib1qi9kS-s8M-K2RzmBX7xyRv-yXrKCpXk-ozkYlMjYOjTlDnBPzrrDQV5WHYU6N3zkyz_K3g/s4000/20210925_121031.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVRjEj5u4xnKqvsnSCs1Lj4vbvY1XNxsbGPwYqIT8gBdmA-SfjMsHi7vDanZgDeXSihczM19VWLONHxnozsuZukn-6cqYwmo9uOHn_LjIDrdDg7dHYsib1qi9kS-s8M-K2RzmBX7xyRv-yXrKCpXk-ozkYlMjYOjTlDnBPzrrDQV5WHYU6N3zkyz_K3g/w288-h640/20210925_121031.jpg" width="288" /></a></div><br /><p>It took a lot of back-breaking work to get the bed cleared of all weeds and especially dandelions!! My hands are still cramping from pulling weeds for so many days straight. This was not the only bed that had to be cleaned up. All my front beds required it as well as around my greenhouse and back patio.</p><p>I added a little fairy circle flowerbed towards the front and then planted along the back fence some sunflower seeds. I cannot wait until everything is up and blooming!!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVxT8Go26O_5wbzXYbaThte1wR84tX7So14SILnI5IuhdB3F8frEO9DEJTP1KYaril3vhTHmnbFrYkgwGGt1qL8OKEgSbKpeRox6oPuGOiQA3E84rPzk7BRO4Fl0y-lW92VhjWVzvMoKin5h16GmlQVqlmLI06lai-vg9nwAR6aAEYSgPIkjd2H4VQ6Q/s2880/20220706_091329.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2880" data-original-width="2880" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVxT8Go26O_5wbzXYbaThte1wR84tX7So14SILnI5IuhdB3F8frEO9DEJTP1KYaril3vhTHmnbFrYkgwGGt1qL8OKEgSbKpeRox6oPuGOiQA3E84rPzk7BRO4Fl0y-lW92VhjWVzvMoKin5h16GmlQVqlmLI06lai-vg9nwAR6aAEYSgPIkjd2H4VQ6Q/w640-h640/20220706_091329.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>Speaking of blooming and pops of color, I am loving all the different varieties of petunias and dianthus I have planted in planters around the house. The top picture of the collage below is a wild rose bush that sprouted up along the back fence. It finally bloomed this year. It is in a precarious spot though. It is right behind the grill and smoker patio blocks. But so far it is still thriving.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCZl4UZGQOJuRFulkZJOB1gB1N8QJ_I9orVBilFb2lJKjy0PZ6rF0nn_tXvSP77ypRlVPxDjhmTDgrzgvzIopzUf6zvb1dC_rPbG-Q-It-_mf-Eop5Xky7OQ5hUEZyBLHiEFjWxe1goJ3HBxkM_IbcGI3hzYgRxaUft_F6tEqZVgmpxYHhcu2cHzeqng/s2880/20220706_090809.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2880" data-original-width="2880" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCZl4UZGQOJuRFulkZJOB1gB1N8QJ_I9orVBilFb2lJKjy0PZ6rF0nn_tXvSP77ypRlVPxDjhmTDgrzgvzIopzUf6zvb1dC_rPbG-Q-It-_mf-Eop5Xky7OQ5hUEZyBLHiEFjWxe1goJ3HBxkM_IbcGI3hzYgRxaUft_F6tEqZVgmpxYHhcu2cHzeqng/w640-h640/20220706_090809.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfldE2RpyzZP7daO3rs2ZI66ZYlHivkzcmh3U24yym9icCIjuJ3Ofvzr-N2N77Tjvz7dOONOAsOASlCDM064nfJKVahs6n9bE4izy8YbbpEjdg4GZ8K3WhNbqXbmxmNt04Qddrmke3SpZgxsz5CKTJDZrAOxMAiRiglMBvQAshIQOXVYR4_hq8ZyvLqA/s2880/20220706_091125.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2880" data-original-width="2880" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfldE2RpyzZP7daO3rs2ZI66ZYlHivkzcmh3U24yym9icCIjuJ3Ofvzr-N2N77Tjvz7dOONOAsOASlCDM064nfJKVahs6n9bE4izy8YbbpEjdg4GZ8K3WhNbqXbmxmNt04Qddrmke3SpZgxsz5CKTJDZrAOxMAiRiglMBvQAshIQOXVYR4_hq8ZyvLqA/w640-h640/20220706_091125.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>For the corner spot in my front flowerbed, I added some of the cattle fencing we had left over and the rest of the white hanging planters as a cute corner attraction. The ivy was left over from a planter I had on the front porch last year. My creeping myrtle has gotten so large this year that was completely ignoring it the first part of the season!!</p><p>I also used some of the leftover cattle fencings as a brace for my tall dianthus. The smaller dianthus came back this year. I had them planted in this planter as a last-minute pop of color choice last season. I cannot believe they came back in this planter and the planter next to the garage.</p><p>We did a refresh to the rocks in the front flower beds. I did not get a picture of the peonies in bloom. But the wildflowers are coming back so strong each year. I actually need to thin them out a little. My plan this October is to plant a bunch of tulips in the front flower bed with my gladiolus. I will also plant some under the large front window. There is actually a small flower bed under it that is blocked by the peonies. I figured I will at least be able to enjoy them when I am on my front porch.</p><p>I am looking forward to my gladiolus this year. I moved the decorative fence from the corner bed to in front of my gladiolus bed as a bracing instead of using white stakes with string this year.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYll8GFkltHJmgVG50nrhl0DmV7o8U08Pb1mZuE7ud1_KGOboRnvkRzleKtMn8kvCWkx15szoLm4z5BWX9-jer5OxMnUMwfHCqAMIpq6TFEcZMCXGl8NuNY8-FsInvZFOl6VHQ_cjf5ptouirv67MyzQo4cy7CeoUR2MKfnt5lFSpzIwB0iHDgOR4FyA/s2880/20220706_091415.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2880" data-original-width="2880" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYll8GFkltHJmgVG50nrhl0DmV7o8U08Pb1mZuE7ud1_KGOboRnvkRzleKtMn8kvCWkx15szoLm4z5BWX9-jer5OxMnUMwfHCqAMIpq6TFEcZMCXGl8NuNY8-FsInvZFOl6VHQ_cjf5ptouirv67MyzQo4cy7CeoUR2MKfnt5lFSpzIwB0iHDgOR4FyA/w640-h640/20220706_091415.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>The sideyard gate entry was destroyed by Pepper when she would run back and forth watching the cowboys rodeo across the street. We have worked so hard to fill it in and make it level again. We had some old bricks from the front flowerbeds that were busted and miss shapen. We threw them down in the huge trench she had made and began slowly filling it with topsoil, sand, and pebbles. We now have a level entry with some of the sod we found on the interstate. I also made some corner flowerbeds to add some color and attract a few more pollinators. I love how it turned out. The barrels I ordered from Home Depot. I did not realize how large they actually were until I got them in. Luckily, we had done a nice shopping haul at Lowe's and Home Depot the week prior and I had found a bunch of clearance items to fill them up with. I also have a couple of hydrangea plants planted in the corner next to the house along with a lantana plant. I am hoping this corner flowerbed becomes full of large hydrangea blooms!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA9HfzYbZjzVSPa3MYaR0lpaz6E3EbtSfU3rWwisKEYNmjZqtrAvsTrzEvUMEjhfUpJWxGdGlApcSh_46Epxkm4k0HuRctcuPKiidz65RwYZlOft-U7ODyXo5i7fwq1oxPjhO7rKbwnsbv8izJmH4paaApy1DbOnosx-TNDUoz6FJwpQbFyrFF9of6rg/s2880/20220706_091001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2880" data-original-width="2880" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA9HfzYbZjzVSPa3MYaR0lpaz6E3EbtSfU3rWwisKEYNmjZqtrAvsTrzEvUMEjhfUpJWxGdGlApcSh_46Epxkm4k0HuRctcuPKiidz65RwYZlOft-U7ODyXo5i7fwq1oxPjhO7rKbwnsbv8izJmH4paaApy1DbOnosx-TNDUoz6FJwpQbFyrFF9of6rg/w640-h640/20220706_091001.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div>So that is a full update on my flower beds. I did not completely get all my weeding done until this past weekend. Yes, I spent the majority of my 4th of July vacation cleaning flowerbeds and planting up new beds.</p><p>During our Covid sickness, Keith decided to make a fence that blocks the dogs from one side of the yard. This is the side of the yard where I have my vegetable planters. We used leftover wood from the cat cage we had up in one of the rooms inside. Now that the cats are gone and with Jessica, we decided to upcycle all the wood. We also used cattle fencing instead of dog fencing. It makes the fence steadier and more eye-appealing.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdzfZlHPn0m0dxe-nwUb1Y8o8Wt1uLvBrwvSC0H-ivH7gx9ZnR_yzXTDbheagcEVaiGpWIMjiyW7hOo7_4AvKlKQ0SrtSnE9P7a7pcxEKW1lUrR0TA4rErl1XqttB3pibxByQCRSGrfE6LQod3vzrshrH_4nlNdcSD8qSka7ADIYV0lprsc8qWtol8iA/s2880/20220706_090533.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2880" data-original-width="2880" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdzfZlHPn0m0dxe-nwUb1Y8o8Wt1uLvBrwvSC0H-ivH7gx9ZnR_yzXTDbheagcEVaiGpWIMjiyW7hOo7_4AvKlKQ0SrtSnE9P7a7pcxEKW1lUrR0TA4rErl1XqttB3pibxByQCRSGrfE6LQod3vzrshrH_4nlNdcSD8qSka7ADIYV0lprsc8qWtol8iA/w640-h640/20220706_090533.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBdI1-5IYp-WYEm62FodRMsHHOWIWtiBSYvtsIJvYJhvAEog5c4vG4vwb67F0ULroxIE0-Rc1hCP5k51BgEodAwDR8jwNt6N9-btL5Vs12GPVjGg1cHCXyM_MFX5z3UIZya8Q0z-GnUn-7pNMn6j2GVfJ5xf9QW6-p3J02AEDtGuOjEhUdmWCMhf5gtw/s2880/20220706_090647.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2880" data-original-width="2880" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBdI1-5IYp-WYEm62FodRMsHHOWIWtiBSYvtsIJvYJhvAEog5c4vG4vwb67F0ULroxIE0-Rc1hCP5k51BgEodAwDR8jwNt6N9-btL5Vs12GPVjGg1cHCXyM_MFX5z3UIZya8Q0z-GnUn-7pNMn6j2GVfJ5xf9QW6-p3J02AEDtGuOjEhUdmWCMhf5gtw/w640-h640/20220706_090647.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>We had some strips of the cattle fencing that we made into a cute archway. I then purchased some really adorable hanging planters off of Amazon and filled them with some really cute flowers. Next year we might work more towards a full vine that engulfs the arch, but this year we went more simple.</p><p>We added a couple of window box planters as well and Keith set up the sprinkling system to easily water the planters. It really cuts down on watering time with the way he has it all set up. He also installed some sun shades that go over the patio. It has made a huge difference this year so far.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz9Hb633Yz2YnlRZtlI28Z5knt6_lTcH8wdhrr0YpsKfDVm4jVuLRU1xqFo-h-1qxw3_xSKtqxw6EYyEiDaIoWgredgUmyQhkHY-YVUhooQrFOYYAov_9d0cDTwdu3ijlwPVz0lbEjyhUUYjigCMFJQuEfbnPFM63OSLgvXF4rbxlwfnKuYtkA3DOUxQ/s2880/20220706_090906.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2880" data-original-width="2880" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz9Hb633Yz2YnlRZtlI28Z5knt6_lTcH8wdhrr0YpsKfDVm4jVuLRU1xqFo-h-1qxw3_xSKtqxw6EYyEiDaIoWgredgUmyQhkHY-YVUhooQrFOYYAov_9d0cDTwdu3ijlwPVz0lbEjyhUUYjigCMFJQuEfbnPFM63OSLgvXF4rbxlwfnKuYtkA3DOUxQ/w640-h640/20220706_090906.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>We got very lucky this past week. We were heading home from Home Depot with a heavy load of pebble rocks to add as flooring to my greenhouse and freshen up the flowerbeds. We were going extra slow on the interstate due to the heavy load when we came across a lot of contractor sod on the side of the interstate. We pulled over and scavenged as much as we could. What a huge difference it makes compared to the previous pictures just having some great-looking grass down. We had that area heavily seeded and some of the grass was sprouting, but why wait when you can have it now and for free!!<div><br /></div><div>I am loving my back patio this year so much. I sit out in the morning drinking a cup of coffee and enjoying the bees and butterflies. I am not sure if I will have any vegetables this season. We had a cold snap and I did not tent my planters. Hopefully, something produces. I do have some lettuce, so that is something.<br /><p><br /></p></div>wynette vasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12197954765405309774noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5223932582852213186.post-58217601387257354502022-06-02T08:04:00.003-07:002022-06-02T08:04:55.998-07:00Spring might actually show up!!<p> Our weather has been so scattered-brained lately. Over the Memorial Day weekend, we had rain and snow. Very cold morning temps. I had to pull out the heater once again. I am praying this was the last of the cold fronts.</p><p>On a crappier note, Keith and I caught Covid. Of course, it was Keith who brought it home to me, but nonetheless, we both were down for the count simultaneously. I am back at work, but I probably won't stay the entire day. I am very fuzzy-brained right now. It wasn't the worst sickness I have ever had, but it was still unpleasant.</p><p>As for my seedlings, I have still been able to keep most of the cucumbers alive. All of my okra is still thriving. I have an eggplant that is now growing and I believe a tomato plant. I still have not divided up the radishes. I did plant a bunch of dill, chives, and basil seeds right before getting sick. They have not germinated just yet. Also, the lemon seeds that I planted about a month ago are sprouting. I might have a lemon tree one day.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW4frc2O8SNGCrLwLk7n5D1bUR6zIsx6s-DnH67DjeJtTk3HLPFUqwCO-ijtTNG-deboQCF0TtCQ_m4lRpUFiDOj8jP9XRAC5WC9Oj5w_5DTsumTYysc9mFWvkuF2Cd4axJsYGSUqggmt-e__rp3xomNIiiLsEd38x9F0Br4Ry2TgCHhxwbWWG4GQ-FQ/s4000/20220601_160548.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW4frc2O8SNGCrLwLk7n5D1bUR6zIsx6s-DnH67DjeJtTk3HLPFUqwCO-ijtTNG-deboQCF0TtCQ_m4lRpUFiDOj8jP9XRAC5WC9Oj5w_5DTsumTYysc9mFWvkuF2Cd4axJsYGSUqggmt-e__rp3xomNIiiLsEd38x9F0Br4Ry2TgCHhxwbWWG4GQ-FQ/w288-h640/20220601_160548.jpg" width="288" /></a></div><br /><p>I am hoping this past cold snap does not wreck my apple tree. I just looked out my office window, and it is snowing!!</p><p>With little sun today, I am afraid that my greenhouse will not heat up enough throughout the day to generate good heat for overnight. The temps will be in the 20s. I have a ceramic electric heater that we used under our camper this winter to keep the pipes warm and the ground from freezing too much. I think I will be running an extension cord out to the greenhouse and running the small ceramic heater tonight.</p><p>We have an extension cord that has our patio string lights attached to it and I will just unplug the string lights and plug in my heater instead. It isn't like we will be hanging out on the patio tonight!!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDrWqaDBoQUcRXGNWpS6UAaBNeeVvmRoPU6IC6ZcXOOxlnsL4cGLFsIlftdcq8rfiWJT5i1c9Jv1klJMq2cA2suAa80xFAoL_gp8gaLmH0skp9s9XDZgcP_yoq5MnsvTUoUWhOEOnoBiNg/s4000/20220521_071800.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDrWqaDBoQUcRXGNWpS6UAaBNeeVvmRoPU6IC6ZcXOOxlnsL4cGLFsIlftdcq8rfiWJT5i1c9Jv1klJMq2cA2suAa80xFAoL_gp8gaLmH0skp9s9XDZgcP_yoq5MnsvTUoUWhOEOnoBiNg/w288-h640/20220521_071800.jpg" width="288" /></a></div>I was able to get my electric heater in place before the temps dropped too much. I am looking forward to morning coffee surrounded by a meadow of wildflowers!!</p></div>wynette vasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12197954765405309774noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5223932582852213186.post-87610080610594224032022-05-20T12:08:00.002-07:002022-05-20T12:08:40.850-07:00Crochet Clothing: How hard is it really?<p> Although I have not picked up a crochet hook in nearly 2 years, I am interested in making a couple of tunic sweaters. Therefore, I have been perusing my typical multi-media platform: Pinterest. As a result, I have pinned quite a few free and purchasable patterns.</p><p>I believe the most significant thing about crocheting a sweater is going to be the correct type of yarn. I have been reading up on bamboo yarn and cotton/bamboo blend yarn as a great medium to use to get that desired draping effect.</p><p>I did start a crochet tank top back in June of 2016, but the yarn I was using ended up being discontinued, and I have yet to find a replacement that will match and drape as well as the yarn I was using. I really would love to be able to complete that project, but until I can find a yarn that will match, I don't see it happening.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmUv--cgypYQSrcifvuiiFJHZyA-y0_tx32sJMp_D4P2uV3isxSXzJIRWoqSoGjLmyNF-Xx0_1WqfpkzT7RzKHjJ3N_gPtaio7Xx7Am2N7BY2BRCUEGHiopbBTcwWfiAL4aHpGyKzIATlirfHHKKMBl7B1njtFAU6HubF9rrVnGMOszTQQJzsNAkOycQ/s640/0614161418_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="360" data-original-width="640" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmUv--cgypYQSrcifvuiiFJHZyA-y0_tx32sJMp_D4P2uV3isxSXzJIRWoqSoGjLmyNF-Xx0_1WqfpkzT7RzKHjJ3N_gPtaio7Xx7Am2N7BY2BRCUEGHiopbBTcwWfiAL4aHpGyKzIATlirfHHKKMBl7B1njtFAU6HubF9rrVnGMOszTQQJzsNAkOycQ/w640-h360/0614161418_medium2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>This is as far as I have gotten on my <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ventura-swing-tank-top" target="_blank">Ventura Swing Tank Top</a>. I had to stop because I ran out of that denim blue, and Cascade Yarns does not make the Sateen one anymore. The cool thing about this yarn is that it is acrylic. Yet, it has been discontinued, and every time I have tried to find a yarn that is compatible, the feel just does not compare. I might pull it back out and again look to see how much of the yarn I actually have. Maybe a bamboo yarn will match the texture and drape of the Sateen.<br /><p>I believe the first crochet top I want to begin is this really cute summertime one made by <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/803728336/summer-top-crochet-pattern-aviva-mesh" target="_blank">HookedoPatterns on Etsy</a>. This is made with 100% Cotton DK weight yarn. I think it will be a pretty simple pattern, but again, it is all about the right yarn. The pattern is also free on Hooked on Patterns blog at <span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "Graphik Webfont", -apple-system, "Helvetica Neue", "Droid Sans", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;"><a href="https://hookedonpatterns.com/crochet-blog/free-summer-top-crochet-pattern-aviva">https://hookedonpatterns.com/crochet-blog/free-summer-top-crochet-pattern-aviva</a></span></p><p><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "Graphik Webfont", -apple-system, "Helvetica Neue", "Droid Sans", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;"><br /></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKjXBi8_fxZPmcKcP7MrBGzA-Sp4B9oPxngyljMNGvbcqbGkh4fxXqek8HBWbCFxLyI6OjM15nB3MaKBCTQL97vetFHfL_goajS6stMwt8YhZ4PNMjVMuZNkSLKAX5j-TNoYo3aRFRr7kuofgFV4zI5whRXLOzD7LGb3QOjPAUJRPw4u8dsy7SlNTEMw/s846/Summer%20Top.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="846" data-original-width="564" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKjXBi8_fxZPmcKcP7MrBGzA-Sp4B9oPxngyljMNGvbcqbGkh4fxXqek8HBWbCFxLyI6OjM15nB3MaKBCTQL97vetFHfL_goajS6stMwt8YhZ4PNMjVMuZNkSLKAX5j-TNoYo3aRFRr7kuofgFV4zI5whRXLOzD7LGb3QOjPAUJRPw4u8dsy7SlNTEMw/w426-h640/Summer%20Top.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><br /><p>We have a very cold snap happening in our neck of the woods. I completed my Bachelor of Business Administration in late April last year. I began my Master's program in June of last year. Unfortunately, I got really sick in November and could not get back into the groove of taking classes any longer. So I am currently unenrolled in my Master's program. I thought I would feel guilty and regret this decision, but I am actually feeling great about it.</p><p>I have not started back to crocheting on any basis. I have collected more yarn, of course but just haven't committed to a project. </p><p>I am currently moving into the vegetable garden project. I have never grown any type of vegetable in my whole existence. I have watched my mom grow beautiful vegetable gardens as a kid and helped her maintain them. But I have not actually attempted to grow vegetables by myself. </p><p>I am trying to learn more about my area for growing vegetables. Due to the long winters and short warm months, we have a very short growing window. I purchased a small portable greenhouse and did begin some seeds inside the early part of March. I can say that attempt failed, and I have a significant learning curve to conquer.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr--ao-X2o3vrpRaK4SRcFw5kkJjDIMT1X1JqcPqeVAHdP4fbqYLw3yebwQThlhFfKPZBl6jlD1HLAyzj2KQ4er727sufcHPChuv4t7LUgadavuVZ4Pj1Y4_I7zDsh0scZTvcHWzDbBUyaAGysZqpuKbxY3ZWlkbp_51cYH8FGJg1A8QZCBaSDiFk0bA/s2880/20220519_095329.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2880" data-original-width="2880" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr--ao-X2o3vrpRaK4SRcFw5kkJjDIMT1X1JqcPqeVAHdP4fbqYLw3yebwQThlhFfKPZBl6jlD1HLAyzj2KQ4er727sufcHPChuv4t7LUgadavuVZ4Pj1Y4_I7zDsh0scZTvcHWzDbBUyaAGysZqpuKbxY3ZWlkbp_51cYH8FGJg1A8QZCBaSDiFk0bA/w400-h400/20220519_095329.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>Disregard the dead plant in my greenhouse. It was a plant that was on my back porch from the previous year. I tried to keep the geranium thriving throughout winter, but I could not. We had a few old bricks from our front yard flower beds that I had removed and replaced with a different border. They make for a lovely rustic floor, plus also help retain heat from the day sun to counteract our cold nights. The area next to the greenhouse against the dog fence will end up being my raised container garden once the seedlings are ready to transplant. We still have to build a fence in order to keep the dogs out. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy0cJiDg0nvOqONl2-obnuxzJpd-HTmWfECroXSZWBFjr-xRqHkgiB1UuuvzIl_UEvuzXgz3y_xmhFn9ULOInFY5PUnZNuhUBYwvsnRojc7_6EMZUhpsAmv2Y0w0BGbolDWrBVMm7oZgBiUibYkmIWk2lvE0maF5gzAfy5WSVZvSXAhBC61Wmd339B1A/s2880/20220519_102340.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2880" data-original-width="2880" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy0cJiDg0nvOqONl2-obnuxzJpd-HTmWfECroXSZWBFjr-xRqHkgiB1UuuvzIl_UEvuzXgz3y_xmhFn9ULOInFY5PUnZNuhUBYwvsnRojc7_6EMZUhpsAmv2Y0w0BGbolDWrBVMm7oZgBiUibYkmIWk2lvE0maF5gzAfy5WSVZvSXAhBC61Wmd339B1A/w400-h400/20220519_102340.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>This is a pic of where I got my bricks from. I am still working on comprising an herb collection. Trying to figure out which ones I will utilize the most so I am not wasting any plants. The wooden slats are from an old flower trellis we had made years ago from an old futon bed frame. The trellis has finally become worthless and too unstable, so we tore it down and I created another shelf inside the cage. It has been working out great when I place my tray of planted lettuce seeds on it during the day to absorb morning sunlight and enjoy the shade during the day.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmqXG_5Ls4TmtuitjwitQ-diKJLMwm6MxWJzkGGRk0guIO0ZdPDT8KkyIhY4vy7WzjMFEmNjoST6wqTARQE_Yg9grXyr2rJKRr7pwAYfMoQAxS9QGHjOFTzdmUQKYUDJRXj9kTsSXM4L1-ov-L4ofN2G0U39T2SGvrJRZ8ODcs6vJRGuk_mTfgG8B-6Q/s4000/20220513_174903.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="1800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmqXG_5Ls4TmtuitjwitQ-diKJLMwm6MxWJzkGGRk0guIO0ZdPDT8KkyIhY4vy7WzjMFEmNjoST6wqTARQE_Yg9grXyr2rJKRr7pwAYfMoQAxS9QGHjOFTzdmUQKYUDJRXj9kTsSXM4L1-ov-L4ofN2G0U39T2SGvrJRZ8ODcs6vJRGuk_mTfgG8B-6Q/w288-h640/20220513_174903.jpg" width="288" /></a></div><br /><p>For now, we are chugging along. I am perusing my Ravelry account looking at what I have in my stash inventory. I did go through some of my yarn bins this past weekend trying to find the perfect yarn combo. </p><p>Backstory, the one room I had all my yarn organized in and accounted for became my daughter's room a year and a half ago. All my supplies are in different areas of the house now since her old room was so much smaller. I have yet to completely organize the new yarn room and so I have bins stuffed in every closet or container I could find. So I really have to organize these next few weekends so I will be ready to go.</p><p>The notes for the Throwback Blanket pattern stated that the designer used Caron One Pound yarn. I like Caron, but have found that in a blanket it becomes pealie (not sure that is a word, but it is where little lint knots come up while crocheting a large item). I am thinking of using either a cotton mixture or wool mixture. I want the blanket to last a lifetime. </p><p>I have a good bit of Cascade Sport Yarn that is a nice wool mixture, but I am worried the weight is not right. I guess the best thing to do is have a few sets of yarn ready and see which ones work up best.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-3sne9PtZC5Y2GnnWrFIrJmuFEMfXgRLWvt8vxy7ds8eu7d2xjV82o6pWa3aaqk9NgD1Z3ZEjYSraofaYlo7Rpbxnajugsf-H2zXiSXLS-AVJ_UZcwzjjTRFcpJecfDe1YO_ypIGeMpcG/s640/nature_organic_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-3sne9PtZC5Y2GnnWrFIrJmuFEMfXgRLWvt8vxy7ds8eu7d2xjV82o6pWa3aaqk9NgD1Z3ZEjYSraofaYlo7Rpbxnajugsf-H2zXiSXLS-AVJ_UZcwzjjTRFcpJecfDe1YO_ypIGeMpcG/s320/nature_organic_medium2.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN3Wnh6huyB8rPef0AaOYGY-IxELK-hyyYOp7Q5tJ7oFGE35pdBTv8x6vwTKdBzsXCbKuEAAHqaY0LWv_WxWTe3BYPbhnK7C_5-Pjs5rNyHn4n_vxmzzOIzH6UTixZw_MAz4cAlk9N4f93/s320/Organic_Khaki_small2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="240" data-original-width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN3Wnh6huyB8rPef0AaOYGY-IxELK-hyyYOp7Q5tJ7oFGE35pdBTv8x6vwTKdBzsXCbKuEAAHqaY0LWv_WxWTe3BYPbhnK7C_5-Pjs5rNyHn4n_vxmzzOIzH6UTixZw_MAz4cAlk9N4f93/s0/Organic_Khaki_small2.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVmhYuTSESYHWjBoceo6Ywf-AAGQKPHnnQz6z5xHWEdnSeJocRVlBWxkZtG4UBTMlroeHSeN-NW1X0Ncp5_1D44zF8YcDxeD1D38LWtk3MdgscCdLP9v8GJMnkmxqq5VmwknHBswkEgyDX/s320/Organic_Pecan_small2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="240" data-original-width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVmhYuTSESYHWjBoceo6Ywf-AAGQKPHnnQz6z5xHWEdnSeJocRVlBWxkZtG4UBTMlroeHSeN-NW1X0Ncp5_1D44zF8YcDxeD1D38LWtk3MdgscCdLP9v8GJMnkmxqq5VmwknHBswkEgyDX/s0/Organic_Pecan_small2.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwwBsN0tUQagmbeMZNi6YycPH9nS2HhRVwJ90sOUEM7AD2fy8XLJpoBHxy4xyDn1c2LVEUJfNdoHccukRdfII5TVDiaCJ_h_lfYXIPKMrBiLQbJGsRuNYGWcDZkfh36DIlSJq3VTikgGBH/s640/Organic_Spice_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwwBsN0tUQagmbeMZNi6YycPH9nS2HhRVwJ90sOUEM7AD2fy8XLJpoBHxy4xyDn1c2LVEUJfNdoHccukRdfII5TVDiaCJ_h_lfYXIPKMrBiLQbJGsRuNYGWcDZkfh36DIlSJq3VTikgGBH/s320/Organic_Spice_medium2.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>These are the lionbrand natural organic yarn colors that I was working up about 5 years ago for a baby blanket, but the pattern and yarn just did not go well.
